KRQE is reporting that New Mexico Democrats went before a second judge today seeking an order to stop the GOP from calling non-Republicans with erroneous polling-place information. VoteTrustUSA has recieved several messages like the following email: I received a call from the New Mexico Victory Committee for New Mexico Congresswoman Heather Wilson. The volunteer told me that she was calling to make sure that I knew where to go to vote. She verified my name and address, then gave me a polling spot that was completely different from the one that I had gotten from the Bernalillo County Clerk's office earlier that afternoon, via their website.
According to KRQE, Republicans called it a non-issue saying the few mistaken calls were based on bad information provided by the Secretary of State’s office. Both parties accused the other of engaging in dirty tricks on the eve of Tuesday’s general election. The Democrats started with an emergency hearing Sunday alleging Republican phone banks were calling registered Democrats and Greens and giving them incorrect information on where to vote. The judge declined to issue the restraining order. Republicans countered by admitting mistakes were made but contending people on their list identified as Republican voters must have had the same name as registered Greens or Democrats. Republicans argued that more than 20,000 phone calls have been made from the Republican Party based on a list supplied by the Secretary of State. There are some people registered as Democrats with the same name as registered Republicans, they said. Democrats are blowing a clerical mistake affecting a handful of people out of proportion, they added Democrats brought several witnesses to the stand today who said received these phone call. At midday the hearing was still underway. Voters with questions about were to vote can call their county clerks or in some cases go to the clerk’s Web site. For a list of county clerks with contact information, click on the As Seen On KRQE link on the KRQE.com home page and select Ballot and Voting Information. The Republican Party should present a list of the Democratic voters they called that have the same names as Republican registrants for their explanation to be believeable. Otherwise this seems like part of an organizaed compaign to mislead voters unlikely to vote for Heather Wilson. VoteTrustUSA strongly condemns any actions taken to misinform voters as a violations of the ideals and principles on which our nation is founded.
